HOT SPOT
Cunetto’s Does the Splits
Cunetto’s House of Pasta on The Hill has been a hot spot for 44 years, so that’s nothing new. But even its devotees might not know that, while not listed on the menu, half-orders of pasta are available for the asking. The hard part is deciding on one of the 50-plus pasta offerings (the most in town). The biggest seller is linguine tutto mare, if that helps. 5453 Magnolia, 314-781-1135.
INSIDER TIPS
Spray-on Chicken Wing Sauce?
Not only does it exist—in four varieties—but Zach’s Wing Sauce is locally owned and manufactured. Floyd Thomas III and his son, Zach, created the line of easy-to-use, spray-on sauces from premium ingredients, minus the preservatives, fillers, and artificial ingredients found in comparable sauces. Currently, the four flavors—Better Buffalo, Mesquite Heat, Sriracha Lime, and Sweet Heat—are available online, as well as LeGrand's Market and Catering, Valenti's Market & Catering, Sha's in St. Charles, and at Straub's by mid-June. Bottles are sold individually for $7.95 each or in a four-pack for $29.50.
MICRORANT
Dispenser Napkins
We’re not opposed to dealing with scrawny, barely single-ply specimens at our favorite greasy spoon. But we do take exception when the restaurant is of a higher caliber. If an establishment can charge $12 for a sandwich, then we maintain the customer eating that sandwich is worth the extra penny for a soft, reasonably absorbent dinner napkin.
