Pappy (no, not that Pappy) has arrived at Gamlin Whiskey House.
Until it runs out, bourbon from Pappy Van Winkle is now available at the Central West End spot in 1.5- and 2.5-oz. pours. The rare, limited edition bourbon hails from Kentucky's Buffalo Trace Distillery and is made in collaboration with the Van Winkle family. It's estimated that only 10,000 barrels are released each year.
Gamlin is offering Pappy Van Winkle 23-year, 20-year, 15-year, 12-year, 10-year, and rye. The bourbon has been offered at Gamlin before, and it's likely to sell out quick based on previous releases. Dustin Parres, corporate bar manager for the Gamlin Restaurant Group, says Pappy Van Winkle was one of the first to lean toward a sweeter, wheat-style of bourbon.
"It has really become one of the most sought after whiskeys," he says.
Flavor notes include caramel, maple, honey, spice, and oak. The bourbon is also known for its long finish. Parres says many whiskeys are big, bold, and the taste can go away quickly. Pappy, on the other hand? It "crescendos."
