City Museum
The national shout-outs continue for St. Louis.
Following a rave review on Vogue's website earlier this week, The New York Times published an article about St. Louis as a part of its Frugal Traveler travel column. Times contributor Lucas Peterson praises the Gateway City for its budget-friendliness, live music, and restaurants.
"St. Louis has all you could want in a city—museums, green spaces, good music and exciting new restaurants—plus that distinct Midwestern sense that if you stop random people on the street, there’s a very good chance they grew up nearby and are excited to share the name of their favorite bar with you," he writes.
During his four-day trip, Peterson's St. Louis travels included stops at Lemon Gem Kitchen Goods, the Saint Louis Art Museum, City Museum, The Dark Room, Union Loafers, and Broadway Oyster Bar.
Along the way, he mentions the affordable prices of attractions and meals, including a $5 show at the Moolah Theater & Lounge, a $10.49 meal at Sugarfire Smoke House, and 99-cent records at Vintage Vinyl.
"There was so much to see and do—as much as a city twice its size—and all of it within easy reach," he writes.
While Peterson lauded Vicia's $12 lunch deal and the live jazz music at Thurman's in Shaw, the jury's still out for him on St. Louis–style pizza, which he tried at Imo's. "It is, let’s just say, an acquired taste," he writes.
