St. Louis expands its international offerings with Texas de Brazil.
The Brazilian steakhouse chain opened its first Missouri location inside the Saint Louis Galleria this week, in the former home of Mexican eatery Casa del Mar (1137 Saint Louis Galleria). The restaurant serves dinner churrascaria style, meaning waiters bring knives and skewers tableside to carve a selection of 16 different proteins.
“We’re very happy to welcome guests to our new location in the bustling Saint Louis Galleria and the community of Richmond Heights,” Salim Asrawi, chief operating officer for Texas de Brazil, said in a statement. “We look forward to treating visitors and locals alike to the authentic Brazilian churrasco and genuine service we are dedicated to providing every day."
Dinner at Texas de Brazil is offered for a flat rate of $43 (children ages 6 to 12 get a 50 percent discount; $5 for ages 3 to 5; and free for ages 2 and under). Dinner includes endless cuts of meat—including Brazilian sausage, chicken breast wrapped in bacon, and lamb chops—and access to a salad buffet–type station that offers Brazilian hearts of palm, grilled Portobello mushrooms, Greek olives, shrimp salad, sautéed mushrooms, herbed sweet onions, soup du jour, and more. Sides include feijoada (a Portuguese bean stew typically with beef or pork), garlic mashed potatoes, and jasmine rice.
The bar menu includes signature cocktails—like a Brazilian caipirinha—and such appetizers as lobster bisque and an antipasto platter. Takeout will also be available.
The 6,500 square-foot restaurant can seat more than 200 guests and boasts a private dining room for up to 35 guests.
This isn't the first churrascaria-style restaurant to hit the St. Louis area. Tucanos Brazilian Grill, a chain that hails from Utah, debuted five years ago in the Streets of St. Charles development, and remains one of the few (if not the only) churrascaria-style establishment in the area.
A few have come and gone, though. Brazikat closed in 2014 after a year-and-a-half run in downtown Clayton (its space is now the home of 801 Fish). When SLM reported the closure, then owner Sam Barakat said, "We just didn’t make it… St. Louis is a tough market.” Cafe Brasil closed in Rock Hill, and the owners now run Brazilian restaurant Brasilia on South Grand. And churrascaria restaurant Bacana Brasil shuttered in 2012 in Chesterfield.
Texas de Brazil is open Monday through Thursday, 5–9:30 p.m.; Friday, 5–10 p.m.; Saturday, 4–10 p.m.; and Sunday, 4–9 p.m.
