St. Louis' SweetArt joins famous chicken sandwich debate with vegan option
In honor of the internet war between Popeyes and Chick-fil-A, this local restaurant is offering the "Vegan Chikn Challenge Sandwich" as today's special.
The great Popeyes vs. Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich debate has hit St. Louis. If you're not familiar: After Popeyes announced its new chicken sandwich (met with much praise), Chick-fil-A tweeted that “Bun + Chicken + Pickles = all the ❤️ for the original," prompting a light-hearted Twitter feud between the two fast-food companies. (Wendy's has, of course, also chimed in.)
Now, that great debate is hitting home as SweetArt, a local eatery known for its vegan options, has thrown its hat in the ring. Announcing on August 25 via Instagram, the restaurant posted the "Vegan Chikn Challenge Sandwich" as a Tuesday special, writing: "So, @popeyeslouisianakitchen and @chickfila shouldn't have all the #chickensandwich fun."
Created by chef Reine Bayoc, the sandwich takes vegan GardeIn meatless chicken patties and adds pickles and Southwest sauce. The initial Instagram post was met with multiple comments and likes, prompting the restaurant's second post, announcing that the August 26 menu would be limited to burgers and the sandwich, as well as salad and fries. (The restaurant just asks that customers don't request modifications to the sandwich.)
As for the great chicken sandwich debate? It sounds like St. Louisans have a winner winner chicken dinner.
