After hearing guests at events catered by The Social Affair rave about the cheese boards and crudite platters—and not finding anything similar for shoppers to take home—the catering and event company's director of operations, Liz Ryan, founded Lorraine.
Each “grazing board” is stacked with charcuterie and a variety of cheese, as well as seasonal fruits and vegetables. Prices range from $30 (for a small crudite and dip or fresh fruit grazing board) to $160 (for a large cheese and cured meat board). Ryan says the boards are good for any occasion, from a light meal for two to an office happy hour, holiday gathering, baby shower, or bachelorette party.
Ryan’s goal is to champion local producers and suppliers. She sources products from such places as Eat Here St. Louis, the Tower Grove Farmers’ Market, and Fox River Dairy. Some of the locally sourced cheeses on offer at present include Garlic Cheese Curds and Cave Aged Tomme from Marcoot Jersey Creamery, Bloomsdale from Baetje Farms, and Tomato Garlic Cheddar from Milton Creamery. Saulme Beddu’s Finocchiona salami is among the cured meats. Among the other fine products on the roster are such items as Concord and Niagara grapes and McGraw Hilltop pecans.
“My hope is that people create memories around these grazing boards; that people approach them with wide eyes and the excitement of a kid in a candy stores,” Ryan said in a statement. She has plans to expand the concept to offer a “cocktail party in a box,” with wine, spirits, ice, and mixers. Other ideas for future grazing boards include dessert and candy boards, salad and sandwich platters, and seasonally appropriate selections.
