The fried-chicken craze has come home to roost, as a national chain opens its first metro area location on Monday. Specializing in chicken tenders and wings, Slim Chickens recently opened at 1515 Hampton Avenue, a few blocks south of Forest Park in a former Denny's location,
The Fayetteville, Arkansas–based fast-casual chain specializes in chicken tenders and wings, though it also offers sandwiches, wraps, salads, and chicken and waffles. The restaurant uses all-natural premium tenderloins. “By focusing on fresh, all-natural chicken tenders that are buttermilk-marinated, hand-breaded, and always cooked fresh to order, we really have a commitment to providing a better chicken experience," says Slim Chickens vice president of franchise operations Brian Simowitz.
Customers can also choose from 17 house sauces. “Without a doubt, the cayenne ranch is one of our most popular sauces,” says Simowitz. “We make our ranch fresh in house, but the cayenne ranch has just a little kick to it.”
Customers can pair their chicken dinners with Southern-style sides, such as mac 'n' cheese, coleslaw, and potato salad. And for dessert, choose between milkshakes, pudding and cheesecake jars, and freshly baked cookies.
The new location is part of a 30-unit deal across Missouri and Illinois between the fast-casual chain and St. Louis–based commercial development company RSolution, LLC, which already operates seven stores across the two states, including in Troy, Missouri. Two more locations are slated to open next year.
“It’s a very high-traffic area,” Simowitz says of the South City location. “We’re very excited to build and expand the brand into St. Louis.”
