St. Louis chefs will have a chance to show off their chops this holiday season. A St. Louis–based meal delivery service is hosting a holiday cooking competition for local chefs later this month.
Sare Food, an online service that delivers food prepared by chefs in the St. Louis area, will host the competition on Sunday, November 18, at 11:30 a.m. at the School of Sisters of Notre Dame – Maria Center in St. Louis. The chef battle royale calls on cooks not already affiliated with the meal service to make a holiday-themed dish in one hour.
“SareFood.com works with highly talented local chefs through our local meal delivery website, so we thought it would be fun to meet other local chefs and challenge them to show off their abilities and creativity for all of St. Louis,” said Sare Food founder Vinny Sharma.
Sare Food will choose eight to 10 chefs from a list of finalists for the competition. The finalists will then create a dish using pre-selected ingredients. Dishes will be judged by quality, taste, texture, presentation, creativity, and authenticity of the recipe, Sare Food said in a press release. The winning recipe will be featured on the meal service’s website throughout the holidays.
Judges for the competition include Yolanda Warren, a chef at Sare Food; Cassiday Proctor, co-host of Spencer’s Neighborhood on 106.5 The Arch; John Carney, a food enthusiast and host of the Carney Show on 550 KTRS; and George Mahe, dining editor at St. Louis Magazine.
The competition will take place at the Maria Center at the School of Sisters of Notre Dame at 320 E. Ripa. Doors open at 11:30. Awards ceremony and prize giveaway at 2 p.m.
