Russell’s on Macklind is getting a makeover. The popular South City restaurant is changing its hours and menu and will only be open for dinner and weekend brunch Wednesday through Sunday. The menu will be more seasonally focused.
“Dinner has steadily increased at Macklind, and our sister café, Lola Jean’s Giveback Coffee, now serves breakfast and lunch down the street, so we saw this as a great opportunity to shift daytime lunch focus to Lola Jean’s,” Russell’s chef and owner Russell Ping said in a press release. Russell’s on Macklind’s full-service bakery will stay open for orders and pickups during its new hours. The restaurant’s other locations in Chesterfield and Fenton will keep their hours and menu.
The new dinner and brunch menus at Russell’s on Macklind will reflect “smaller seasonal changes and sophisticated, but comfortable, interpretations of classic home cooking,” the restaurant said in a release. New menu items include the “Itaska Salad” with mixed greens, baby spinach, shallot, carrot ribbons, dried cherries, toasted walnuts, black olive, white cheddar, croutons, and Balsamic vinaigrette. There will also be a crab cake dish with roasted garlic mashed potatoes, lemon garlic aioli, pickled pepper, and red cabbage.
Popular existing items will also remain on the new menu, including the bacon-wrapped meatloaf, cider-brined thick-cut pork chop, and cheese puffs. Other previous dishes such as the ricotta gnudi and roasted chicken will get makeovers.
Russell’s on Macklind will also roll out an expanded Happy Hour menu with a wider selection of bar bites and $4 draft beer, sangria, house wine by the glass, and a happy hour special drink, “Float Trip,” with house lemonade, Tito’s vodka, and lager. Guests who stop by during happy hour between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. can also enjoy snacks including a meatloaf sandwich and smoked wings.

In the meantime, Lola Jean’s will get new breakfast and lunch menu items from Russell’s on Macklind’s old lunch menu including the “Kitchen Sink” salad, chicken and gouda sandwich, and club sandwich. The transition will be a welcome change of pace for Russell’s on Macklind staff, Ping said.
“We will now be able to balance the scale of work, and we’re excited to explore what creativity comes from that for our happy hour, dinner and brunch menus at Macklind,” Ping said in the press release.
Russell’s on Macklind is located at 5400 Murdoch, in the Macklind Business District. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday; open Wednesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. with happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.; open Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. with happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.; open Saturday for brunch from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and for dinner from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; and open Sunday for brunch from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
