Mulled Wine Sour
A vacant building at 1740 Chouteau is now a dazzling Christmas soirée.
Ted and Jamie Kilgore and Ted Charak, the minds behind St. Louis' popular bar Planter's House, have transformed the empty space into a Christmas-themed bar, Miracle on Chouteau, open through December 24. The bar is one of 16 holiday pop-up bars worldwide organized by barware company Cocktail Kingdom. The company reached out to Planter's House to host one in St. Louis.
The drink menu at all the pop-ups, including Miracle on Chouteau, was devised by New York bartender Nico de Soto. Guests can enjoy a handful of creative cocktails—including a Snowball Old Fashioned (literally—a large ice ball fills the cup), a hot milk punch with three different varities of rum called Bad Santa—"naughty" or "nice" shots (the former is cinnamon-infused bourbon, the latter gingerbread spiced rye), sparkling daiquiris, and more. Everything can be sipped from festive glassware.
Snacks on the menu, made at Planter's House, include chili lime corn chips, Christmas sugar cookies, holiday popcorn with M&Ms and sprinkles, and "lumps of coal": Oreo-infused Rice Krispies Treats.
Ted K. describes the overall theme of Miracle on Chouteau, which opened the day after Thanksgiving, as "A Christmas Story crossed with [National Lampoon's] Christmas Vacation."
The 65-seat space, a short walk from Planter's House, is coated in holiday decorations, including a "Hanukkah corner" and eight different Christmas trees, and staff will be dressed in festive sweaters.
"It's like Christmas exploded everywhere," Ted K. jokes.
