Nashan at Food Wine Design, an annual SLM food and wine event.
SLM confirmed its arrival; and an hour ago, Ian Froeb at the P-D announced its opening.
We speak, of course, of Kevin Nashan's much-anticipated Peacemaker Lobster & Crab Co., opening its doors for the first time tonight at 4:30 p.m.
Those who have caught a sneak peek remarked that "it looks nothing like Niche...or like Taste by Niche," the restaurants Peacemaker replaced. One observer noted "it looks just like a Maine-coast crab shack" (no easy task in the middle of a land-locked Midwestern city), which is exactly the look Nashan intended.
Froeb posted the inaugural menu here, and we've just learned that today's price for the Lobster Roll and the Crab Roll (made with Blue crab) and served with house-made chips, are $22 and $25, respectively. (Several of Peacemaker's menu items carry "market" prices.)
Should you think that's a titch pricey for a lobster roll, you haven't traveled to the East Coast recently, nor ventured into newly-opened Three Flags Tavern, where two versions of lobster roll--Connecticut-style (warm, with drawn butter) and Maine-style (cold, with mayo)--are huuuge sellers, despite the $20+ price tag.
Prediction: "Lobster rolls" will be the new buzzword in local foodie circles. It might even temporarily derail "fried chicken."
