After two explosions rocked Beirut, Lebanon, this week, St. Louis chefs have banded together to lend a hand. Restaurateur Ben Poremba has organized The Beirut Disaster Relief event, which will be held at Olio on Wednesday, August 12, from 6–9 p.m.
"The catastrophe in Beirut is so devastating and so tragic," Poremba says. "We wanted to show solidarity with our Lebanese friends. St Louis is home to a vibrant Lebanese American community — and we wanted to create a way for people to show their support. As an Israeli native it is also important for me to personally show that human suffering should transcend politics and nationalism."
One hundred percent of the ticket price will be donated to the Lebanese Red Cross. Rain or shine, the event will take place on Olio’s expansive new patio.
Known for his expertise in combining flavors of the Mediterranean and North Africa, Poremba will be joined by guest chefs to craft what's shaping up to be a memorable evening. Between five and six food stations will be spaced on the patio, offering wood-fired breads, shawarma, charcoal-grilled meats, falafel, hummus, and, baklava. Beer, wine, and cocktails are included.
Parties are limited to six guests, and masks are required. The $100 per person tickets include food, alcohol, and tax (gratuity optional), and may be purchased here.
