It’s rare for a summer or fall weekend to pass without a beer festival in our fair town, but the number of options, obstacles, and opinions can seem overwhelming. Here are a few tips on how to properly navigate a beer fest, as well as a few pro tips for the next few festivals
1. Lay a base: Fill your belly before a festival. It’s safer and keeps you from getting tipsy too quickly.
2. Set up camp: Find one central location (away from the tables, please!), so you and your friends will always know where to meet.
3. Be adventurous: You never know what your next favorite beer will be. It never hurts to try something. Don’t like it? Pour it out and try something else.
Schlafly HOP in the City | September 19, Schlafly Tap Room
Arrive at the Schlafly Tap Room at 11 a.m. Before the line gets crazy, nab a parking spot, enjoy delicious food at the bar (laying that base!), and pick up your wristband and sample glass.
Urban Chestnut & Schlafly Oktoberfest | September 25–27, Urban Chestnut, Midtown
Where better to enjoy brats and beer than a beer hall? The Bolzen Beer Band plays Friday and Saturday nights. It’s an “extreme party punk polka” band.
Augusta Bottoms Beer Festival | October 3, Augusta Bottoms, Augusta
If you throw a beer festival in a field, they will come. Consider carpooling—or, even better, stay at one of the lovely bed-and-breakfasts in Augusta and make it a weekend.
