Nadine’s Hash House (1802 S. Broadway) is opening right on schedule. This Saturday, April 23, owner Nadine Soaib, who previously ran Nadine’s Gin Joint in Soulard, will open the restaurant, located just a block east of the Soulard Market, in the space formerly occupied by Billie’s Fine Foods. The restaurant will be open from 7 a.m.–2 p.m. daily.
Like its predecessor, Nadine's will still serve hearty home-style meals for breakfast and lunch, though the interior underwent a dramatic makeover. Gone are the uncomfortable old booths and wobbly counter stools, which Soaib steadied and brought back to high-shine glory. The walls are now painted a tasteful grey, enlivened with slogans and signs created by artist Phil Jarvis. There’s even a selfie station near the front door.
The menu leaves no doubt that it’s a diner. Generously portioned breakfast dishes include biscuits and gravy, corned beef hash and a veggie sweet potato hash, traditional breakfast plates, omelets, pancakes, and cinnamon French toast. Look for chorizo and eggs served with tortillas, as well as a Southside slinger with chili and a slinger with sausage gravy. Or you can choose from steak and eggs, chicken fried chicken and eggs, ham and eggs, or grilled kielbasa and eggs.

Both the breakfast and lunch menus will be available all day, with the latter including salads, sandwiches, chicken salad, house-made meatloaf, clam strips, fried fish, and grilled chicken. Salads, soups, chili, and chili mac round out the menu. Cocktails, including a make-it-yourself mimosa bucket, are available as well.
As a former customer at Nadine's Gin Joint previously told SLM: “Nadine’s food has always been good. She makes good, old-fashioned breakfasts—nothing skimpy. She always tried to do something special for everybody. We're excited to have her back."
