In a recent article, Food and Wine's David Landsel rounded up the best fast-food options in each state.
Noting that In-N-Out is regarded as California's most iconic fast-food restaurant, Landsel lists which fast-food chains are most "tightly linked with its home territory." For Missouri, he names Lion's Choice. (No arguments here.)
Landsel highlights the classic roast beef sandwiches as "some of the best you’ll find at a fast food joint." He's fond of the bottomless au jus, noting that "you may allow yourself just as much as you like, turning that sandwich into a French dip, for all you care," and to not forget the horseradish.
What does Landsel really enjoy about Lion's Choice, though? The ice cream, which he regards as "more like frozen custard, thick and creamy." Further, he notes its affordable price—just 25 cents for a mini vanilla cone, 50 cents for a dipped one (large vanilla cones are $1.75, and it's $2 for a dipped cone).
Hopefully, Landsel's tried the fries. (Pro tip: Ask for a cup of cheese to dip them in. It's well worth the extra charge.) But he adds that he hasn't visited the restaurant “nearly enough.” We second that.
