The mid-August opening of The Peacemaker Lobster & Crab Co. lived up to its name. Seafood lovers in landlocked St. Louis were clamoring for the place to open, as were legions of devotees of chef Kevin Nashan’s flagship, Sidney Street Cafe. The Peacemaker even made a list of the most anticipated restaurant openings nationally this summer on Eater. This time, Nashan served up a menu with favorites from the Northeast (Maine lobster rolls and chowda) and Louisiana (filé gumbo and Gulf shrimp po’ boys), as well as a soupçon of Sidney Street Cafe (a daily crudo and succotash with harissa vinaigrette). The interior mixes new chic with old Bar Harbor: white subway tile, whitewashed wood beams, and soft lighting from converted washtubs and oil funnels, shining onto sky-blue and seafoam-green Tolix chairs and Mason glassware. Outside, above a bank of windows, you’ll see “Crab—Lobster—Raw Bar” etched into hundred-year-old brick. The Peacemaker might not be located on the shore, but it’s a welcome sight.
