A St. Louis institution might not have served its last slinger after all.
The Eat-Rite Diner will reportedly reopen with Joel and Shawna Holtman at the helm. The couple told KSDK they plan to launch a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for renovations and "hope to have it opened before Cardinals opening day."
Located along Route 66, just south of Busch Stadium, the Eat-Rite was long under the ownership of LB and Dorcas Powers, who bought the 516-square-foot restaurant in the '70s. LB, who's now in his eighties, had said last October that when the diner's exhaust fan stopped working, it was the last straw—and, ultimately, time to hang up his apron.
When the diner shuttered last year, many took to social media to express their heartbreak. Some went a step further, creating a GoFundMe page that raised more than $1,700 to repair the exhaust fan.
More as we learn it.
