Charlie Gitto's From the Hill will reopen in Chesterfield next spring.
Next spring, the popular Italian restaurant Charlie Gitto’s will reopen its Chesterfield location Charlie Gitto's From the Hill (15525 Olive) after storm damage forced the business to temporarily close in July.
"The damage was very substantial," says owner Charlie Gitto Jr. "Close to a total loss." The restaurant's roof collapsed during the storm, causing water to seep through the ceiling.
Gitto Jr. announced that reconstruction will begin in November. The construction team will completely rebuild the restaurant from the inside out. "When we get the facility up and running, it will look and feel like we've opened up a whole new place," he says.
Gitto Jr. owns three of the family's restaurants, in Chesterfield, inside Hollywood Casino in Maryland Heights, and the original on The Hill. (Learn more about Gitto Jr. and the eponymous restaurants in this Q&A.) His restaurants are known for such signature dishes as toasted ravioli (which some say is the best in the city), Pasta Suzanne (homemade tagliatelle noodles with shrimp, scallops, clams, langostinos, and mussels in a spicy three-pepper cream sauce), and Nunzio (veal, beef, or chicken topped with jumbo lump crabmeat, a signature cheese blend, and lemon butter sauce). The flagship Hill location includes a commissary and a full bakery.
