In October, St. Louis Magazine announced that chef-owner Bill Cardwell would be closing the eponymous Cardwell’s at the Plaza at the end of December, and for the remainder of the year, the restaurant would celebrate his “semi-retirement.”
In a release this afternoon, Cardwell announced that the last service would be December 23. The final night will take the form of a “Eat and Drink ’Till It’s Gone Party,” beginning at 5 p.m. Proceeds will benefit St. Louis Area Foodbank, one of Cardwell's favorite charities.
The release stated that food and drink will be served buffet-style "till everything is gone." Seating will be open, and the attire will be casual. The restaurant will be closed to regular dining customers on its final night.
Tickets are $75 and can only be purchased in person at the restaurant prior to the event. No phone reservations will be accepted. Tickets are limited to 200 guests and already almost sold out.
In the release, Cardwell said, “This has been a bittersweet time for me as I close a business that has generated lifelong friendships. It’s been wonderful seeing so many customers stop by the last few months to enjoy some of their favorite dishes. The fact that I can end this era in a way that benefits the St. Louis Area Foodbank is the best part of all.”
