Dog Days of Summer
Quick! Before the weather heats up again, take your dog to a restaurant patio that allows dogs. You can consult this list, and try places like Bar Italia, Broadway Oyster Bar, Café Ventana, Coastal Bistro & Bar, Fozzie’s Sandwich Emporium, Mile 277, and Onesto Pizza & Trattoria. Good to bring: a water bowl. Good not to bring: a squeaky toy (because it squeaks).
The Return of Dr. Dan the Pancake Man
Fans of Dr. Dan the Pancake Man, unite! The super-talented griddle king, who can make a pancake that looks like just about anything, is pouring batter in residence at Corvid’s Café. Each Sunday brunch buffet at the restaurant includes frittatas, a soup du jour, bacon, sausage, a potato dish, crème brulee French toast, fruit, a snappy citrus-potato salad, live music by guitarist Dave Black, and custom pancakes by Dr. Dan, from 10 a.m. ‘til 2 p.m. (Note: Corvid’s is closed for a private function this Saturday.)
Sangria Mia
Sister Cities Cajun & BBQ is mixing up batches of summer sangria that are tropical and tantalizing. Recent concoctions—made with produce from Soulard Market—include sangrias in such flavors as Georgia peach and ginger, white watermelon, Cherries Jubilee, peach mango ginger, and a Confused Berries sangria made with strawberries, blackberries and raspberries. The punches debut on Fridays and Saturdays. They are so popular that they often “don’t make it through the weekend,” says one of the bartenders.
