One of the most affordable breakfast sandwiches in town is also one of the best. The B.Y.O. (Build Your Own) sandwich at Yolklore comes with a choice of homemade bread, a choice of five proteins, and the same number of toppings. The add-on possibilities will keep breakfast-sandwich lovers busy for years. For a time, there were a few breakfast sandwiches on the menu, until people started customizing, explains co-owner Mary Bogacki, which morphed into the current format. (“From a basic $5.25 to a ‘get wild with it’ sandwich,” Bogacki says. “Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free… Bring it on.”) In so doing, Bogacki turned Yolklore’s biggest headache into its biggest seller. Her favorite combo? Ciabatta, a French omelet–style farm egg; cheddar cheese; honey-cured, thick-sliced bacon from Daily’s Premium Meats; and a spicy aioli known as “Devil Sauce.” Further add-ons include Arty’s Bloody Marys in twist-and-pour bottles and Bogacki’s gooey butter cake, an under-the-radar entry for the tastiest in town.
