Before prohibition there were about 40 breweries in St. Louis and while I'm sure those brewers were friendly I doubt they ever put on a beer festival. That's what makes the Brewers Heritage Festival all that more impressive. Forty local breweries all working together to celebrate one thing: beer.
On June 11 the St. Louis Brewers Guild celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Brewers Heritage Festival with a reboot. This year’s festival wants to emphasize the St. Louis in St. Louis Brewers Guild by moving from Forest Park to the Gateway Arch grounds along the birthplace of our city, the Mississippi River.
This year’s event features less tickets being sold and more space with a larger footprint than in years past. According to STLBG’s executive director Troika Brodsky, this means, “Lots of open space, lots of bathrooms, and designing a layout that minimizes lines and crowding.”
Continuing the original mission of educating people about the huge variations that exist in beer, the Heritage Festival will have over 100 different styles of beer coming in all colors, aromas and flavors.
This year will feature some new breweries to the festival such as Rockwell Beer Company, Alton's Templar Brewing, Florissant's Narrow Gauge Brewing, and Bastard Brothers Brewing out of High Ridge, along with some old favorites like Schlafly, Urban Chestnut, and Civil Life.
The event features two sessions, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. and also an evening session of 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. Tickets are $37.50 and can be purchased at the St. Louis Brewers Guild website. This event sells out every year—early—so procrastinate not.
