Welcome the Area's Newest Microbrewery
Six Mile Bridge brewery held its grand opening last week in Maryland Heights. The owners are Ryan and Lindsay Sherring, who formerly ran 021 Brewing Co. in Cape Town, South Africa, before moving from Ryan’s native land to Lindsay’s hometown. The new brewery is named for a village in Ireland, so it’s no surprise that the first offerings include an Irish red ale along with a Bavarian hefeweizen and a session IPA. Their Tap Room is open Thu - Fri from 5 - 11 pm and Sat noon - 11 pm. 11841 Dorsett, 314-942-2211
Cook For Some Buds, and Win $2,500
Do you think you’re a hotshot home chef? You have a chance to prove it—and win $2,500 in prizes—at the new Budweiser Home Chef Throwdown, part of this year’s Taste of St. Louis, September 18 through 20. But you need to send in your recipe quickly, by August 31. It must be an original recipe incorporating Budweiser beer. Two finalists will be chosen based on concept, creativity, originality, and overall quality. Those two will compete on stage at Taste of St. Louis, with the winner facing off against Anheuser-Busch executive chef Sam Niemann. More details are available on Taste of St. Louis’ website.
Learn If It's "Scoan" or "Sconn"
Admit it: At least once in your dining experiences, you’ve really wanted to tell the parents at a nearby table to teach their kids some manners. Well, for the next few weeks, you might want to carry some pre-printed cards directing any such offenders to The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis’ first-ever Etiquette Tea, to be held Saturday, September 12. Etiquette expert Nancy Schnoebelen Imbs (right) will provide “special tips on age-appropriate manners, posture and social skills” as participants enjoy “flavorful mini-sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and an array of irresistible sweets” served “with a selection of beverages suitable for all ages.” Price is $49 per person. Call 314-719-1433 for reservations.
