Winter Farmers' Markets, Part 1
Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean that you can’t still get farm-fresh items, including the occasional veggie, from a local farmers' market. New this year, Creve Coeur holds its market on the parking lot of the Westgate Shopping Center (12320 Olive), November through April, on the first Saturday of the month from 9:00 a.m. - noon. Also new this year, Boundary at the Cheshire (7036 Clayton) hosts the St. Louis Community Farmers' Market on select Saturdays; check the market’s Facebook page for specific dates. The Lake Saint Louis Farmers' and Artists' Market holds its winter market from 9 a.m.–noon on the second Saturday of the month at The Meadows (I-64 at Lake Saint Louis Boulevard).
Winter Farmers' Markets, Part 2
The Tower Grove Farmers' Market is held from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. on the second Saturday of the month at City Garden Montessori Charter School (1618 Tower Grove). Ferguson Farmers' Market holds its winter markets from 9 a.m.–noon on the third Saturday of the month at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church (33 N. Clay). Finally, Schlafly Farmers' Market is open from 8 a.m.–1 p.m. on the fourth Saturday of the month at Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest) in Maplewood.
Born to Be Wild
Ever since chef Fio Antognini left town (R.I.P. Fio’s La Fourchette), game dinners have been pretty rare around these parts. And though it won’t include kangaroo, rattlesnake, or some of the other wild things that Antognini used to serve, you can still get your game on at 7 p.m. on January 25, when West End Grill & Pub hosts its “Are You Game to Get Wild” wine dinner. It will feature such goodies as venison, duck, quail, and boar (including an intriguing duck a l’orange crème brulee for dessert). The five courses will be paired with wines from Classique Wines. The cost: $65 plus tax and gratuity. Call 314-531-4607 for details.
