We know you like to eat - you're reading the DINING section of St. Louis Magazine, after all. So consider a food charity and a chance to taste some exciting food. A Tasteful Affair, the annual benefit hosted by Food Outreach, is this Sunday, April 19, at the Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis.
Food stations and passed hors d'oeuvres from forty different kitchens around town are on the menu. They're both from restaurants and chefs and from caterers whose work you may not have had a chance to try as they show off their best work. If you fall in love with that crab cake or curry, you can go back for more - if you have room for it after making the rounds and sampling everything. It's also a chance to schmooze with the restaurant folks, always fun. There's a huge silent auction with items at all price levels. And there are prizes awarded at the closing, with judges that include, ahem, some of us from SLM's dining staff.
Food Outreach feeds people with cancer and HIV / AIDS, men, women and children. They offer clients nutritional counseling with a registered dietician, and a pharmacist is available for consultation as well. For those who need home delivery, their partnership with the Visiting Nurse Association of Greater St. Louis provides a nurse who accompanies the driver who brings in the food, just to check in with the client. The food includes both groceries and meals made from scratch at their facility and then frozen.
Some of you may know that I was a chemotherapy nurse for umpty-ump years. So I'm not just chopping onions when I say that therapies work better in patients who are well-nourished. It's a fact. This is important work, not just little niceties. Here's an opportunity for us all to do good and taste good stuff - what could be bad?
It's a great party. Tickets start at $75 and are available through their website, here.
