On August 16, 1977, Elvis Presley was found dead at age 42 in the bathroom of his Graceland mansion. Conspiracy theories about his cause of death—and whether he died at all—have swirled ever since. Among the greatest pop icons of the 20th century, Presley released 18 No. 1 hits; sexed up America with his gyrating hips; and popularized the peanut butter, banana, and bacon sandwich, a heart-stopping combo that may or may not have contributed to his later-life obesity.
