Some restaurant events are outrageous (The Fountain on Locust's Burlesque Bingo), some are a first for the area (Sandy Talley's pop-up restaurant dinners), some are a prelude to a dinner far, far away (John Griffiths' upcoming "James Beard' preview dinners at Modesto and Sidney Street Cafe), and some are just plain silly...but fun.
The Melting Pot of University City's 4th annual "Always a Bridesmaid" event (this year to be held on Thursday, June 21) falls into the last category. The cost for a four course dinner and what we can only describe as "ample beverages" is $35; on top of that, there are drawings and door prizes.
Owner Mike Hobbs said that last year 114 women shoehorned themselves into a former bridesmaid dress, and as one might expect, "some of the dresses were hot and some were decidedly not." We were afraid to ask if cheesy wedding music was part of the dinner package.
Hey, there are worse excuses for a party. But we do ask one favor, ladies...we've heard, while dressed in such finery, that after a few cocktails every guy starts to look like Vince Vaughn. Please confirm.
