The following modules appear on the "Food & Drink" home page of stlmag.com and are updated weekly.
Broadway Oyster Bar: More specifically, the annual "Best of the BOB Festival" on November 8 and 9, featuring customers' favorite specialty food items from the last year. Want a pre-Fest taste? For starters, how about Shrimp, Mussel, and Andouille Chowder; Oyster Pot Pies; Fried Grouper Cheek Po' Boys; and Crab-Stuffed Prawns? Add in some live music, a heated patio, fireplaces a-blazin', a slew of Abita beers, and you'll better understand why some say "there is, quite simply, nothing in St. Louis quite like the Broadway Oyster Bar." The regular menu will be available all weekend; the Festival menu after 6 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday. 736 S. Broadway, 341-621-8811, broadwayoysterbar.com
Chocolate Turkey Centerpieces Floral decorations are wonderful, of course, but we much prefer a three-pound solid chocolate turkey centerpiece (maybe accented with flowers) from local chocolatier Bissinger's. This year, pass on seconds of pumpkin pie and opt for a little more bird! Hand-painted details, 9" tall, and $48.00 each at bissingers.com or 800-325-8881. The turkeys are also available in two smaller sizes.
Eye-Rolling Front Desk Staffers Ok, we admit we just wandered in... and were completely thoughtless, utterly clueless, and totally out of line not to have made a reservation ahead of time, but gods of Open Table strike us down, that's what we sometimes do. Indeed, we elected to brave the cold winds of winter to show up on the doorstep of your restaurant, albeit unannounced. So lose the side-eye and kindly accommodate us, would ya, please? Such spontaneity is good for business.
