At last check, The Billy Goat Restaurant and Bar (at Vandeventer and Boyle) had closed in order to pursue manufacturing and marketing their signature potato chips on a full-time basis. The Billy Goat Chip Co. opens tomorrow at 4993 Loughborough (at Macklind), with chips available for pick up and delivery 7 days a week and some very interesting menu items available Fri-Sun, cash and carry (for the time being).
Meanwhile, in their old digs, The Bully Restaurant and Pub (thebullystl.com is not active as yet) is doing a brisk business (lunch only, Mon-Fri) after a soft opening earlier this month. Owners Sam Taha and Chris Van Norman, former instructors at L'Ecole Culinaire, have put together a twists-and-turns menu of their own, like a chile and coffee rubbed pork loin sandwich, fried bologna on a honey butter bun that has raised some eyebrows, and their own version of chicken wings (a garlic-marinated, smoky jalapeno rendition that are grilled, not fried). Don't overlook their made-to-order donuts, shaken in a bag with sugar/cinnamon and served with icing on the side. Better than that franchise, 'cause they're guaranteed to be "Hot" & "Now". -- George Mahe
