to reach St. Louis will be auctioned off tonight at SLeeK, as part of their first-year anniversary "Lobster Extravaganza" dinner. SLeeK's chef and owner, Hubert Keller, will prepare a five-course lobster dinner (details here), paired with champagne (but of courrrse). Seatings are at 6 and 8 PM; the cost is $85 per person.
Most local foodies know that Keller is a bonafide Master Chef who owns both SLeeK as well as the country's second Burger Bar, both located inside Lumiere Place. Not so well-known is that he is one of the most approachable chefs--of any stature--you will ever meet, always answering the most mundane questions with the same gentlemanly class and intensity as he answers the toughies.
Oh, yes, about that lobster. No one's seen the critter yet (apparently, it's still in transit from the East Coast). But we do have stats...the expected weight is 20-21 pounds; the age is estimated to be 85 years. The big guy will be auctioned tonight as part of a 4-course dinner for 10, to be held tomorrow evening at the home of the winning bidder. Oh yes, Hubert Keller will be cooking the dinner...and the lobster.
