There’s no doubt about it, Fall has finally arrived in St. Louis. What better way to celebrate the return of the brisk Autumn weather than by enjoying an Oktoberfest celebration?
This Saturday, October 2nd, Jacobsmeyer’s Tavern in Granite City, IL will be holding their 6th annual Oktoberfest. For $20, you’ll not only be able to sample 11 different craft beers, you’ll also have a chance to enjoy barbeque and live music.
“Our first festival hosted about 30-40 people,” says Jacobsmeyer’s owner Bob Kirksey, “But we keep growing and growing. Last year we had over 300 people attend.”
The continual growth of the Oktoberfest isn’t the only thing to celebrate. Beginning in early 2011, Jacobsmeyer’s Tavern will begin brewing its own beer. “We’ve just purchased a 3 barrel brewhouse” explains Jacobsmeyer’s head brewer Dave Degonia, “We wanted to offer up some local beer to the beer drinkers in Southern Illinois.” Working at the Tavern will be a family affair as Dave and his brothers Don, Mike, and Mark will brew the beer for Jacobsmeyer.
This Saturday’s celebration, which runs from 2-8 PM, will be one of your first chances to check out some of the 11 different styles that the Degonia brothers will have to offer. Some of the beers they’ll be sampling will include an Oatmeal Stout, a Dortmunder, and a Black Chocolate Stout.
