Love the local dining scene? Think it’s important to ensure its survival by supporting local culinary students? Well, you’re in luck, as two opportunities to do just that are on the horizon:
The first comes next week, on Valentine’s Day, and offers an intriguing solution to those looking for a unique way to woo their sweetheart. Local culinary school L’École Culinaire will offer a three-course prix fixe Lunch of Love in its Presentation Room, a sort of practice restaurant run buy the students. For $30 per couple, diners select one appetizer, two entrées and a dessert to share from a special menu that includes dishes such as shrimp fritters, grilled pork and asparagus involtini, pan-roasted salmon and sautéed pork tenderloin. And yes, we did say per couple, which means you can impress your Valentine and support culinary education for a mere $15 per person. (Although it should be noted that The Presentation Room offers three lunch seatings every Monday through Thursday, so if you can’t make Valentine’s Day, there are other options.) Reservations are essential; call 314-587-2433.
The second, Falling In Love … In Five Courses on March 10, offers fine dining and a chance to mingle with a celebrity chef. The event, held at the Four Seasons Hotel, raises funds to support scholarships and programs at St. Louis Community College, including the college’s culinary program at the Forest Park campus. Richard Sandoval, the chef dubbed “the father of modern Mexican cuisine” and owner of a culinary empire that includes 26 restaurants spanning five states and four countries, will prepare the gourmet meal with assistance from the college’s culinary students. The celeb factor and swanky locale up the ticket price to the black tie gala—they start at $295. Pricey, yes, but worth it to support STL’s next generation of chefs. Reserve that seat here.
