There had been rumors that Smashburger was looking for a site in St. Louis. Credit the reader in the Eat at Joe's forum who confirmed it. According to Smash's website, the area's first unit will open this Summer at 1981 Zumbehl Rd in St. Charles (formerly a Quizno's).
The Denver-based chain specializes in cooked-to-order, flat-grilled burgers, differentiating themselves by using artisan burger buns and higher-quality burger toppings. Here, quality is no accident...even their milkshakes are made with Haagen-Dazs. But where other local burger-only concepts keep it simple (Christy's, It's A Better Burger), Smashburger has a broader menu, including hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, salads, and even beer and wine in some locations.
Some diners say that St. Louis already has too many burger places. For better or worse, Relish believes our collective grill is just starting to heat up.
