Here are cinco alternativos for tomorrow's festivities:
The new 40-seat patio at Amigo's Cantina opened late last week, just in time for Cinco. What sets it apart is that it's the only non-smoking patio in Kirkwood. Owner Robert Trevino says the response has been "nothing but positive."
The classiest Mexican patio in town is also brand new, at Agave. Brick and iron, with a fountain and tiered landscape, it's as perfect as Kevin's handmade tamarind margarita. On Cinco, there'll be live music on the patio from 6 - 9 and a DJ from 9 - midnight. The restaurant and patio at the new Chuy Arzola's are slated for a mid-May opening.
Chimichanga's on south S. Grand will have live music on their outside patio from 6-10, plus sidewalk tables, a taco cart and 16 oz. margaritas all night for $4.
Pueblo Solis is going to be about cinco-times its size tomorrow, with two tents, outdoor bars, and an outdoor I-need-food-NOW buffet. Expected crowd: 1000 people. If you're drinking a BudLight, you must work for AB-InBev...which means you need something much stronger.
What's new at Nachomama's for Cinco de Mayo? Nada. Same tossed-together cantina decor, same funky music, same solid gringo-Mex food. The patio will be full of revelers, all who swear what they are eating is the best thing on the menu...same as every other day. -- George Mahe
