The rap impresario, Pharrell Williams, was in St. Louis on Wednesday October 5 to have a launch party for his new liqueur, Qream, a milky vodka and dairy drink combo that comes in peach and strawberry flavors.
Pharrell claims the drink is "nearly lactose free" and told HipHop blog that Qream was meant “for contemporary women who work hard and want to relax with friends at the end of the day. I want them to reward themselves deliciously,” adding, “women make up half the population and Qream is about celebrating that power.”
If you do want to celebrate your power (we’re half the population so let’s get drunk!), do yourself a favor and don’t do it with Qream. Last night, I sampled peach, strawberry and the mixed drink Chocolate Dipped Strawberries, which, according to the Qream (with a Q) website, is:
3 ½ oz. Strawberry Qream™ ½ oz. Godiva Chocolate Vodka Cocoa powder (optional) 1 strawberry (optional) • Combine Strawberry Qream™ and vodka in an ice-filled shaker. Stir well. • Strain into a cocoa powder-rimmed martini glass. Garnish with a strawberry slice (optional).
The above drink was decent, but Qream straight up is not good. If you took a strawberry-flavored Slim-fast milkshake and added the booze of your choice, it wouldn’t be much worse. The overly-sweet concoction is supposed to have 12.5% alcohol by volume (roughly the same as in wine) but after the equivalent of two glasses I wasn't in any way affected.
And then there’s the appearance. The liquid in the bottle looks a little like, well, what the name implies. Maybe it's all a big joke for Pharrell, a self-described "kidult." He'll claim he's empowering women while cashing in as women drink his—ahem—product. But what if the ladies don't like your Qream, Pharrell? While standing near the couches where Pharrell was being mobbed, one girl in a skin tight blue dress and four-inch stilettos turned to her friend and said: “Yeah, he's hot. But this drink tastes like sh**.”
Rapper Pharrell Williams made a stop in St. Louis to promote his new liquer Qream on October 5 at the Magic Chef Mansion.
