Back in October, FEAST reported a story about then president-elect Barack Obama’s over-the-top reaction (see story # 2 here) to what is arguably St Louis' favorite new pizza, Pi.
Apparently Obama meant what he said.
Pi's owner (Chris Sommers) and his baker-in-chief/managing partner (Ryan Mangialardo) have been invited to bake pizza Pi in The White House kitchen (to be served to President Obama and staffers) on either April 9 or April 10. I believe this will mark the first time that a St. Louis restaurant--and certainly a St. Louis pizzeria--has been granted such an opportunity.
Sommers and Mangialardo will make the pies on-site from scratch and bake them in the White House's convection ovens. When Sommers asked if Obama had a favorite Pi the day he sampled them in St. Louis, a staffer replied "he tried them all...and he liked them all."
Congrats, Pi guys. Bake on. – George Mahe
