Without delving deep into the minutiae, here's the scoop: Gerard Craft's restaurant corporation has taken over majority ownership of Taste, the restaurant whose principal owner had been his lead chef, Adam Altnether. It should be noted that Altnether was the visionary--both for the physical space and the menu--as well as the spokesman and face of the new Taste.
Before there's any weeping and gnashing of teeth, here's what will happen as a result of this change: at Taste, basically nothing. Altnether will continue his vision and his duties, assisted, as he has been from the start, by Craft. (The last time Relish visited Taste, Craft was working the salad station and loving every minute.)
But a lot more is in play here.
By this acquisition, Craft has freed up Altnether to once again assist him in his other ventures: Niche, Brasserie by Niche, and future restaurants currently on the drawing board. By this acquisition, Altnether becomes part-owner of Craft Restaurants LTD and thereby becomes Craft's only working business partner. By this acquisition, Craft has bolstered the Niche team, and strengthened his two (now three, including Taste) existing restaurants while better positioning himself for the growth period ahead.
