Katherine Bish, who shoots the majority of the food photos for SLM (the "Small Plates" mini-feature in the upcoming August issue may be her best work yet), was tapped to supply some food shots of Gerard Craft's nationally acclaimed and still-gaining-steam Niche for upcoming features in both The Wall Street Journal (see this Saturday's edition) and Food & Wine's online magazine, FoodandWine.com.
Unconfirmed reports indicate the latter will soon add St. Louis to their list of 20 U.S. cities in the ongoing "World's Best Places to Eat" feature, with Craft being the headliner here. This comes on the heels of Food & Wine magazine heralding Craft as one of their "Best New Chefs" in 2008. Make those Niche reservations right now, folks...it's only gonna get worse.
On a related note, Niche Taste Bar (a tidy, no reservations, 16-seater, adjacent to Niche in the former Veruca space) opened just this last Tuesday to rave reviews. The initial menu and some commentary are here. SLM contributor Bill Burge called NTB "impossibly cool," saying "it could change dining in St. Louis, if people embrace it." Something tells me they will. -- George Mahe
