We survived Mardi Gras and just now removed the last of the green glitter from yesterday's face. Hey, bring on the next holiday...
Not content to wait the 6 weeks until Easter, we at Relish prefer something more immediate, such as Pi Day on 3.14, of course, and National Ravioli Day, one week later on March 21. Both have--or should have--local significance.
Chris Sommers and Frank Uible began their Sheen-esque journey (only because it has become "epic" and "winning") three years ago tomorrow when they opened Pi Pizzeria in the Delmar loop. For them, Pi Day is a celebratory event and tomorrow will be no different. The flagship store will feature a Pi memorization contest (3.14159 ... etc.), the Pi mobile truck will offer free cookies at lunchtime, there will be a "flash mob" pizza giveaway at 5 pm at a site to be determined (follow the Twitter feed at @pistl to find out where), Pi's pizzas will be BOGO from 11 am-3 pm at dine-in locations, and Schlafly pints will be Pi-priced all day. All the day's detes are here.

And how odd that it took a press release from BBRG (the parent corporation of BRIO and BRAVO!), to alert St Louis, the home of toasted ravioli, that March 21 is National Ravioli Day. To honor it, half-price ravioli entrees will be offered at both restaurants (psst, BRAVO! has more options) and making "ravioli reservations" is encouraged at both BRAVO! and BRIO.
Hey, how about toasted ravioli? Anybody on The Hill listening? One would think the locals'd be all over this one. Speak up, Tony Lombardo. Yo, Komorek brothers. And Vito Racanelli, we know this one's wacky enough to get you and Onesto interested.
Which got us thinking...who has the best toasted rav's in St. Louis? Here's Relish's ranked list:
1. Angelo's Taverna (also available at other Lombardo family restaurants)
3. Charlie Gitto's (4 locations)
4. Kemoll's
5. Cafe Manhattan (2 locations)
6. Katie's Pizzeria (for that tasty bastardized iteration stuffed with artichokes and Gorgonzola)
(Plus a "don't forget Farotto's" reminder from former SLM editor Steve Schenkenberg, tweeting Relish from Berlin.)
C'mon, guys. March 21 is the perfect date to crank out a new rav...let's roll some dough.
