If your Tuesday schedule finds you in Affton, consider stopping in at Martello’s Italian Restaurant, which will celebrate its grand opening tomorrow with a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. The casual eatery quietly opened last week at 8025 Mackenzie Road, and serves “something for everyone,” explained partner and general manager John Hammers, who also serves as the restaurant’s namesake (martello means “hammer” in Italian).
Diners will find a wide-ranging menu offering a variety of sandwiches, a large salad selection, burgers, even filet mignon and seafood options, plus dishes with an Italian bent: pastas, chicken spiedini, tutto mare, pizza. “You can come in with a date and have steak and a bottle of wine,” Hammers explained, “or you can bring the family and have pizza and burgers and watch the game.”
Hammers said response from the community has been great so far. Watch for a to-go menu to launch soon and a 110-seat patio to unveil in the spring.
