First off (and not in the least food-related), we love that the local citizenry has managed to mispronounce the French surname "Gravois" not one, but two different ways.
That rant out of the way, it's almost springtime in StL, and that means a slew of new restaurant openings...and Gravois Rd. is holding its own.
Walker's Restaurant and Bar opened Tuesday at 6245 Gravois (recent home to Mamacita's and longtime home of Theodore's). Owned by brothers Nathan and Griffin Walker, it looks like the kind of neighborhood joint we'd all want in our 'hood--a scratch kitchen; a small, focused menu; and two amiable chef/hosts who happen to live upstairs. We're still thinking about their onion rings, hand-dipped in an almost-tempura-like batter.
After the standard litany of delays, JJ's Bistro, a beautifully transformed space at 2716 (formerly Carmen's Cafe), is apparently 30 days from opening, and after its share of delays, co-owner Mike Enright says Quincy Street Bistro at 6931 (the former Jimmie's Saloon) should be open for business in 10 days.
