"In simple terms, I think that people just liked being closer to the action," explained Candice Coleman, spokeswoman for Lumière Place, commenting on the closure of the House of Savoy restaurant at the HoteLumière, the shy sister to the Four Seasons Hotel - St. Louis. the more glamorous and attention-grabbing property next door. Think of it as Nicky vs. Paris.
"The new Stadium Sports Bar & Grill has been attracting big crowds," noted Coleman, "as have all the restaurants immediately adjacent to the casino."
One could argue that those who don't patronize casinos, need an escape from them--or just flat-out avoid them--might be attracted to a place like the mellow, Tuscan-inspired Savoy. But it didn't happen, despite a string of impressively-credentialed chefs, like Robert Flowers and Philippe Trosch.
Savoy's last day of service was December 10. No word on what would become of the space, although there is speculation that it might be converted to an additional ballroom, or more banquet and meeting space.
