Full of antioxidants but also a strong stimulant, coffee has been at the center of the great health debate for years. Is it good for you or not? For many of us, the negative benefits aren’t enough to make us give up that morning cup of aromatic gold. But for those of you still on the fence, what if I told you drinking coffee could help save a part of the world?
Three Avocados, a local non-profit coffee company, sells great coffee for a great cause: fresh drinking water for Ugandans. We take clean water for granted, yet 63 children die each day in Uganda from lack of clean water. Ugandan girls spend their young lives not in schools but walking miles hauling jugs filled with water.
While the company is not religious, the idea was conceived when the founders traveled to Uganda on a missionary trip. The name was derived from a gift given by a Ugandan woman during their visit; she gave the only food she had -- three avocados -- so others could eat. Touched, the founders decided to name the company after this generous act and were inspired to help the Ugandans.
Eastern Africa is known for producing some of the best coffee in the world. Three Avocados coffee is smooth, robust, with subtle hints of chocolate. And knowing you have contributed to a noble cause will make your morning cup taste that much more delicious.
One hundred percent of the proceeds go to bringing fresh drinking water to local communities in Uganda. Depending on where you purchase your coffee, anywhere from fifty cents to three dollars per pound gets donated. Purchasing online directs the most money to the cause.
Celebrating its one-year anniversary this month, Three Avocados announced it will begin repairing broken wells in Northern Uganda in June. On June 26, the organization will host a concert by recording artist Josh Wilson at Messiah Lutheran Church in Weldon Spring, MO on the 26th at 7pm. Tickets can be purchased online here.
Three Avocados coffee is available at 10 Dierberg’s locations as well as online. Wholesale information is also available on their website.
How nice to be given an opportunity to purchase an everyday commodity from a local company who's elected to change lives, one bag of beans at a time.
