A lot of events, announcements, and invites come floating across the Relish desk, and this one was in half-crumple when we noticed the odd name. LVN2BW. Was this an event...or a license plate someone spotted in Venice Beach?
Then we noticed "Wellness Happy Hours" and thought we best investigate the oxymoron.
Turns out LVN2BW is a week long event (March 26 - April 1) dedicated to local health and wellness, with giveaways and special packages offered by local health-minded retailers as an incentive for wanting to, well, live well.
But what really caught our eye was the food component: participating restaurants have challenged themselves to provide healthy Happy Hour items during the week. Can there actually be a Happy Hour without cheap, overly-breaded fried food? Apparently so. Here's where you can go to do your due diligence:
- Lucas Park Grille
- Par Lounge
- Monarch
- Herbie's Vintage 72
- Cafe Napoli
- Ozzie's Restaurant & Sports Bar
- OB Clark's
- Roxane
- Tin Can (both locations)
- Wave Taco
- Double D Lounge
- Helen Fitzgerald's
- Syberg's (all four locations)
- Prime 1000
- Mike Shannon's
- Sugo's Spaghetteria
- Via Vino
Each of the above establishments will feature specials on Michelob Ultra (arguably healthy at 95 cals and 2.6 g carbs) along with lower-calorie menu items and/or appetizers designed specifically for the occasion. For example, Monarch's Executive Chef Josh Galliano has created a Berbere Grilled Lamb Kebab, with Mich Ultra beer braised onions, roasted beets, new potatoes, and a beet–red wine sauce. We were interested; now we're intrigued.
We'll report back after a happy, healthy dose of research. You can report in yourself on LVN2BW 's Facebook page, and maybe win a hotel/spa trip to the Yucatan.
