The ever-so-humble Jeffrey Plaza, a long time bastion of culinary treasures (I still miss Bagelville), has just added another lure: Hooked is the creation of Tuyen Hua, whose family owns the recently-relocated and expanded Pho Long (home to some of the best pho in town, menu here), now located several doors west at 8629 Olive in the same plaza.
Hooked will offer hand-cut, hand-battered fish & chips, as well as head-on shrimp, crawfish, crab legs, and unlike other F&C joints, "a fresh fish of the day," according to Hua. The restaurant will have a small dining room but be especially geared for take-out.
Aware of today's bargain mentality and price-point sensitivity, Hua is angling for speed and volume, with the signature F&C and po' boys priced in the $6-7 range and draft beers under $2. .
Expect this fishing expedition to commence in about three weeks.
