Sacco and Vanzetti were Italian anarchists allegedly framed for murder, and executed after a sensational trial in Massachusetts in 1927. They also made a fine St. Louis-style thin-crust pizza, and a respectable grinder.
Okay, we’re not sure about their kitchen skills, but we are sure that naming your pizza joint Sacco & Vanzetti sends a message of defiance and Italian pride.
And Phil Noe is certainly no shrinking violet. The owner of shuttered Italian venture Mia Rosa has attached himself to Sacco & Vanzetti Catering, which has opened a kiosk in the CenterPointe building at 763 North Ballas Road in Town and Country, as well as a newborn storefront out of the operation’s kitchen at 2837 Cherokee Street, 5 blocks west of Jefferson. (And to address any potential confusion, Noe is subleasing from Cherokee Street Catering who also operates out of the same address.)
Sacco and Vanzetti specializes in thin-crust pizza sold by the pie, as well as NY-style pizza sold whole and by the slice, along with a smattering of pastas, salads and homemade desserts, plus good ol' homemade chicken noodle soup as well as “St. Louis-style Italian subs,” perspicuity unknown.
Noe says the business plan includes more lunch kiosks located within office-building lobbies, and a plan to jar and sell Sacco and Vanzetti’s olive relish, red sauce, and Balsamic vinaigrette dressing.
The South City HQ on Cherokee Street is now open from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays.
Finally, justice is served.
