Think pizza and Chinese food has the corner on the home delivery market? Think again. Jason Jacobs (son of Beckie Jacobs, owner of Serendipity Homemade Ice Cream), recently launched a business that delivers 5 varieties of fresh, warm, homemade cookies to your door, accompanied by the necessary accoutrements: cold milk, hot chocolate, and of course, half-pints of Serendipity ice cream.
Jacobs didn't invent this wheel, but such an operation seems particularly hand-in-glove for Serendipity. The student-focused adjunct business is officially called Dipity Dough To-Go and has a Facebook page and a Twitter account, as well as a website. Similar operations exist in Columbia, MO and Bloomington, IN, and cater to all sorts of late-night student activities.(I best stay clear of any recommendation of what beer to pair with a double chocolate chip cookie.)
Delivery hours are from 9 PM to 3 AM Thurs-Sat, and 7 PM to midnight on Sunday. The delivery area is bounded by Grand (east), Lindbergh (west), Delmar (north) and Chippewa/Watson (south). An extra charge is levied for deliveries outside the delivery area. As demand increases, delivery hours could expand.
Although the business is based in Webster Groves, in its first three weeks most deliveries have gone to Washington U rather than Webster U. But at less than a buck a cookie (delivered), it seems like an affordable indulgence, especially after a hard night of...studying. -- George Mahe
