Last week, when Relish caught sight of The Wine Bike at Gerard Tsutakawa's sculpture unveiling at Clayton's Crescent Plaza, we couldn't get enough of it--or enough wine from it.
One of many party props available from mega-event planner Contemporary Productions, this one was commissioned to be built locally. It's a three-wheeled, wine-dispensing contraption that's part whirligig, part Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang, part circus bicycle, a little Mary Poppins, and all Rube Goldberg. Trust us, it attracts a crowd better than Jo-Jo the Dog-Faced Boy.
Wine glasses are stored on the ribs of an open-air canopy that whirls with each pedal-crank from the driver... you keep thinking one will fly off but they never do. Reminded us of the carnival ride where riders in slings are whirled as if on board a giant centrifuge. Relish approached with care, and a very large grin. The short bit of video below shows the action.
The rig has made appearances at private parties and corporate events and is rentable through Contemporary.
On a related note, Relish was unable to verify if Companion 's Josh Allen consulted with Contemporary regarding its "CollaBREADtive 2" vehicle, seen flying high above the city last year...
