"It’s the city side of me,” says Nathalie Pettus, owner of Overlook Farm in Clarksville and now the casually elegant Nathalie’s. The St. Louis native has transformed Salt’s former location into what could pass for her home, with posters from turn-of-the-century Veiled Prophet Balls, dramatic Muny set scenes from 1900, and a nod to her great-grandfather, who created the state seal as one of Missouri’s first secretaries of state. His visage and the portraits of other family members hang along the stairway. Some of the walls are a deep sage, cornice molding wears burgundy and gold, and the ceilings are a rag-glazed smoky ochre. On the tables, chef Jimmy Voss’ pretzel-crusted pork chop might arrive with vegetables on a nest of three types of wilted farm greens, all supplied by Overlook’s 30 green- and hoop-houses. Servers don tasteful logoed neckties and hostesses wear matching silk scarves, the luxuriant runner rugs quieting their steps. In the background, you’ll hear no Mozart or smooth jazz, but rather riffs from the Grateful Dead—no surprise to those familiar with Voss’ longtime gig as their roadie chef.
