It may seem a little weird to have to scrape off your windshield to go to a farmers market, but several grower-focused markets now stay open year-round.
The Schlafly Farmers Market (née Maplewood Farmers Market) continues on the fourth Saturday of the month from 8:30 a.m. until noon at the Schlafly Bottleworks, 7260 Southwest Avenue, until a planned early opening of its regular market. The focus at all the winter markets listed here is generally meat, preserves, coffee, bread and other frozen and non-perishable foods, but at least a few of the farmers manage to bring in some greens, root vegetables and other fresh vegetables.
And you can continue to go to a farmers market almost every Saturday until the regular season kicks in. The Clayton Farmer's Market holds a winter market from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. the first and third Saturdays of each month – which means the next one will be Feb. 1 – at the Center of Clayton, 50 Gay Avenue, just behind Brown Shoe.
The Tower Grove Farmers' Market opens from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month – that would be Feb. 8 – at City Garden Montessori, 1618 Tower Grove Avenue.
And the Ferguson Farmers Market holds court from 9 a.m. until noon the third Saturday of the month – Feb. 15 and thereafter – at St. Stephen’s parish hall, 33 North Clay.
